SMT Production Upgrades.

2005-Quarter 1

Over the Christmas 2004 period, we have significantly upgraded our SMT lines through the addition of a Yamaha YV88X Full Vision placement machine with two W-ATS auto tray stackers, and the reconfiguring of our SMT production lines.

The X series Yamahas are current generation high performance full vision placement machines.

Some of the benefits to our customers are:

bulletAlmost all SMT components can now be machine placed by our lines providing they are supplied in a machine loadable format (e.g. not loose), largely eliminating hand placements of SMT parts.
bulletThe 88X provides additional capabilities, such as placement of 0201 components, full BGA ball recognition etc.

Rolando Cadavena joins Millison.

2005-Quarter 1

We are pleased to announce that Rolly has joined us in the position of Line Engineer. His primary task is to ensure products flow through our production system. Rolly joined us in January 2005. He has brought a wealth of talent and experience to our organisation and is proving to be a valuable member of our team.

Feel free to contact Rolly with any of your production engineering or 'design for manufacture' issues.

Selective Wave Soldering at Millison.

2004-Quarter 4

We have added Selective Wave Soldering to our capabilities, due to the increasing number of double sided SMT boards that are simply unsuitable to wave soldering.

We chose the Ersa EcoSelect 250 as our entry into the world of Selective Soldering.

This is a small right-sized machine provides us high quality soldered joints as a replacement for hand soldering.

The down side??? Well boards need to be designed with the selective wave process in mind. In particular, we need 3mm clearance around the components to be soldered on the solder side.

For more information on this process, its benefits and its design requirements, please contact Paul Isaacs on 8793-9500.

Automated Optical Inspection:

2002-Quarter 2

Millison has added Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) to its line capabilities with the purchase of two Marantz 22Xfv AOI systems.

These versatile desktop systems provide a full range of inspection including:

bulletMissing and out of place components.
bulletComponent Polarity.
bulletReflowed solder joint inspection.
bulletSolder paste deposition inspection.

More information about the capabilities of these systems can be found on our Inspect and Test page.

If you would like to see these systems in operation or discuss how they could help you, please call Paul Isaacs on 03 8793-9500 or 0417-806-688.

PCB De-paneling:

Are your PCB’s stressed?

Depaneling PCB’s can be a stressful business. Millison takes the stress out of breaking out PCB’s.

We have added ‘V Notched’ board break out capabilities to our production line with the recent purchase of the CAB Maestro 3E de-paneliser.

We can break out your ‘V Notched’ boards using our CAB Maestro 3E depaneling tool, or your routed boards using our CAB Hektor pneumatic depaneling tool. These tools are designed to inflict minimal stress on the PCBs, significantly reducing the chance of damage to the boards.

Some clients are still receiving their boards from us in panel form and subsequently breaking out their boards using ‘stressful’ techniques. We would be pleased to talk to you about breaking out your boards in the future using our low stress equipment.

For more information, please call Paul Isaacs on 03 8793-9500 or 0417-806-688.

SMT Engineer:

Chris Herbut has joined us in the position of 'SMT Engineer'.

Chris is our process guru who helps make our products to flow through the SMT assembly system. Chris came to us after approximately 9 years with Telspec, in which time he worked in a variety of positions from SMT assembly through to operations support.

We are extremely pleased to have Chris onboard with us.

Chris should always be able to help you with any assembly or process questions that you have for your product and is contactable on 8793-9500 or can be emailed as:

Low SMT CAD Conversion costs:

The key to a low SMT conversion cost at Millison is our Proyam software.

Proyam is a piece of software that was commissioned by Hawker Richardson to allow owners of Yamaha pick n’ place machines to convert the popular Protel software into Yamaha placement data. Hawker Richardson kindly agreed to let Millison continue the products development and improve the product for our own use. The feature set of Proyam is now significantly enhanced and tailored to our environment.

What do we need?

All we need are your Protel files and Bill Of Materials (BOM) to ensure the PCB data is correct.

How does it work?

We take your PCB file, generate a BOM and check / update the PCB file. The PCB file then becomes the ‘master’ data and is ‘signed off ‘ back to the supplied BOM and client. The PCB file is imported into the Proyam software, generating placement and feeder data from the file, as well as optimising the placements and balancing the load across multiple machines.

Some of the benefits that we get from our investment in the development of Proyam are:

bulletImproved production throughput through:
bulletLoad balancing across multiple machines.
bulletPick and Place optimisation.
bulletReduced setup time.
bulletFast error free import of CAD data.
bulletReduced setup costs.
bulletReduced placement costs.
bulletIn-house developed and supported.
bulletSupport for PROTEL, PADS, PCAD or universal CAD data.

To you this means low setup and conversion costs combined with guaranteed accuracy.

If you would like any more information on SMT CAD conversion or the setup process, please call Chris Herbut or Paul Isaacs of 03 8793-9500.
