Several years ago, Millison Technology staff attended a 3 day course entitled "How to design and operate a high performance plant". This course was run by Mr. Bert Anderson from HP Medical Products Group (HP-MPG) in Boston, USA.

Bert introduced us to the management philosophies and production techniques employed at HP-MPG.

These philosophies and techniques included:

	Taguchi, 'Design Of Experiments' and 'Quality Function Deployment'.
	Dr. Deming and his management system.
	Toyota Production System or Lean / Flow Manufacturing.
	Theory of Constraints.
	MIT and their work on Organisational Learning.
	Dr Seagal and her work on 'Human Dynamics'.
	Agile Manufacturing models.

We have embarked on a long term program to utilise these philosophies and techniques within our organisation, to build a plant based on a world class culture of excellence.

For us, this is a journey in which we have begun with:

	Lean Manufacturing Techniques.
	Dr. Deming's management system.
	Shamelessly stealing HP's 12 operating principals and treating them as our own.

We are also working strongly in the areas of organisational learning by:

	developing our staff's personal mastery.
	promoting team learning.
	fostering systems thinking.
